Hazard Registry (“the Site”) is committed to protecting the privacy of our visitors. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding that information.
1. The Barcode & Serial Number Scanner — 100% Client-Side
This is the most important section of our Privacy Policy.
Our product recall scanner tool uses your device’s camera to read barcodes and serial numbers. This process happens entirely within your device’s web browser using client-side JavaScript. Specifically:
- 📷 Camera access is handled entirely within your device’s browser. We do NOT transmit, capture, or store images of your home, your products, or your surroundings on our servers.
- 🔒 No video or image data ever leaves your phone or computer. The camera feed is processed locally by the html5-qrcode library running in your browser.
- 🚫 No server calls are made during the scanning process. The scanned code is compared against a locally stored list of affected product identifiers (the
dangerListarray) that is already loaded on the page. - ✅ When you close the page or navigate away, all camera data is immediately discarded by your browser.
In plain English: Your camera never talks to our servers. Everything happens on your device. We literally cannot see what you scan. This is a deliberate privacy-by-design architecture choice.
