Automotive recalls involve critical vehicle safety systems — brakes, steering, airbags, seatbelts, fuel systems, and electrical components. While vehicles make up a smaller portion of our database, the hazards are among the most severe: brake failure, sudden steering loss, airbag rupture, and fire risk at highway speeds.
Vehicle recalls are managed by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) rather than the CPSC. You can check your specific vehicle by entering your VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) at NHTSA.gov/recalls. Your VIN is located on the driver’s side dashboard (visible through the windshield) and on your vehicle registration card.
If your vehicle is under recall, the repair is always free at any authorized dealership. You do not need to go to the dealership where you purchased the vehicle. If the recall involves a serious safety risk and parts are not yet available, ask the dealer about loaner vehicle options.
