CHOKING AND BATTERY INGESTION
ABC Trading is recalling toy headbands and electronic pet cages because they’re dangerous for kids. The toys have batteries that are easy for kids to get to, and small parts that can cause choking. If a child swallows a battery, it can cause serious injuries or even death. Stop using these toys immediately to protect your children.
About 84,700 units affected. No injuries have been reported yet, but the risk is high.
Technical Breakdown
The recalled toys do not meet the federal safety standards for toys. Specifically, the battery compartments on the headbands and pet cages are not secure, making it easy for children to access and ingest the button cell batteries. Ingestion of button cell batteries can cause chemical burns, perforation of soft tissue, and potentially death.
Additionally, the toys may contain small parts that pose a choking hazard to young children. The lack of proper warnings and secure battery compartments makes these toys a significant safety risk to children.
