The Hazard
CARBON MONOXIDE POISONING AND FIRE HAZARD
Generac and DR Power are recalling certain electric start pressure washers because they can self-start unexpectedly. This poses a serious risk of carbon monoxide poisoning if used in an enclosed space. It can also cause a fire. Stop using these pressure washers immediately and follow the instructions to get a free repair.
The firm has received six reports of the pressure washers self-starting. No injuries or property damage have been reported.
Technical Breakdown
The pressure washers have an electric start/stop button powered by a rechargeable battery. A defect can cause the pressure washer’s gasoline engine to start on its own, even when it’s not being used. This unexpected starting can create a dangerous level of carbon monoxide, an odorless, colorless gas that can cause serious injury or death if inhaled.
This recall is due to a potential electrical issue in the starting system. The internal components may malfunction, leading to the unintended activation of the engine. The company is offering a free repair to address this issue and prevent future incidents.
