The Hazard

CLASS 1 WARNING: INGESTION

Generic magnetic ball sets are being recalled because they pose a serious ingestion hazard to children. The small, powerful magnets can be swallowed. If multiple magnets are swallowed, they can attract each other inside the body. This can cause severe internal injuries and even death.

None reported

Why This Happens: Technical Breakdown

The recalled magnetic ball sets contain many small, powerful magnets. These magnets are not properly secured and can easily come loose. Children may mistake them for candy or other small objects and swallow them.

When two or more of these magnets are swallowed, they can attract each other through the walls of the intestines. This can pinch the intestinal walls, causing blockages, perforations, twisting of the intestines, and blood poisoning. These injuries require immediate medical attention and can be fatal.
