The Hazard

CLASS 1 WARNING: FIRE AND BURN

ESR is recalling HaloLock wireless power banks. The power banks can overheat. This poses a fire and burn hazard to consumers.

The firm has received 20 reports of the lithium-ion battery catching fire and exploding, resulting in property damage of about $30,000. No injuries have been reported.

Why This Happens: Technical Breakdown

The ESR HaloLock wireless power banks are being recalled because their lithium-ion batteries can overheat. Lithium-ion batteries are known to be sensitive to temperature changes and physical stress. When these batteries are damaged or exposed to extreme conditions, they can experience a thermal runaway. This is a chain reaction that causes the battery’s internal temperature to rise rapidly, leading to fire or explosion.

The power banks may have a flaw in their design or manufacturing process that makes them more susceptible to overheating. Overcharging, using incompatible chargers, or physical damage could also contribute to the problem. The recalled power banks do not meet safety standards, making them dangerous for consumers to use.
