The Hazard
CHOKING, CHEMICAL BURN
Misco Sports Badminton Toy Sets are being recalled because the shuttlecocks contain small button batteries that kids can easily get to. If a child swallows one of these batteries, it can cause serious injuries, internal burns, and even death. This toy does not meet the safety rules for kids’ toys.
About 15,120 units were sold. No injuries have been reported yet.
Technical Breakdown
The main problem is the shuttlecock. It has a small button battery inside to make it light up. These batteries are easy for children to remove. If a child swallows a button battery, it can cause severe chemical burns in their throat and stomach. These burns can happen in just a few hours and can lead to long-term health problems or even death.
The toy fails to meet federal safety standards designed to prevent this type of hazard. The batteries should be securely contained so that children cannot access them. Because the batteries are easily accessible, the toy poses an unacceptable risk to young children. The company is offering a full refund to prevent further harm.
