The Hazard
CRASH
BRP is recalling certain Can-Am Outlander ATVs because the speed limiter can fail. This can cause the ATV to suddenly accelerate, potentially leading to a crash, serious injury, or even death. This recall affects specific Outlander Pro and Max Pro models from 2023-2026 that either came with Speed Limiter Mode or had a software update after February 3, 2026.
BRP has received one report of a speed limiter failure that caused sudden acceleration and flipped the ATV, resulting in scrapes and bruises to the rider. About 2,820 units are affected.
Technical Breakdown
The problem lies in the Engine Control Module (ECM) software. A glitch can cause the speed limiter, designed to restrict the ATV’s maximum speed in certain modes, to malfunction. When this happens, the ATV can unexpectedly accelerate beyond the intended limit, catching the rider off guard. This sudden surge in speed can make it difficult to control the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash, especially in challenging terrain or at higher speeds.
Affected Products

Sentinel Action Plan
- STOP: Immediately stop using the affected Can-Am Outlander ATV.
- DOCUMENT: Find your ATV’s Vehicle Identification Number (VIN). It’s on the front right side of the vehicle, on the frame and also stamped on the front member on the right side of the vehicle. Note the 10th character of the VIN (P = 2023, R = 2024, S = 2025, T = 2026) to confirm the model year.
- ACT: Contact your local Can-Am dealer to schedule a FREE repair. The dealer will update the ECM software to fix the speed limiter issue. You can also contact BRP directly for more information.
