These extension cords are dangerous. They have exposed prongs that can shock you, and using them to connect a generator to your house’s electricity (backfeeding) can cause fires and electrocution. Plus, they’re short, which might make you put a generator too close to your home, risking carbon monoxide poisoning. Immediately stop using these cords to avoid serious injury or death!
About 200 cords were sold. No injuries have been reported yet.
Technical Breakdown
These extension cords, also called pigtail cables, have a serious design flaw. Both ends have male plugs, which means the metal prongs are exposed. If one end is plugged into a generator or other power source, those prongs become live with electricity. Touching them could give you a deadly shock.
Another problem is that people might use these cords to “backfeed” electricity from a generator into their home’s electrical system. This is extremely dangerous because it can overload circuits, cause fires, and electrocute utility workers who are trying to restore power. Also, since the cords are short, people might place generators too close to their houses. Generators produce carbon monoxide, a poisonous gas. If a generator is too close, the gas can leak into your home and make you very sick or even kill you.

FAQ
How do I know if I have one of the recalled cords?
The recalled cords are blue or yellow, have a three-prong black plug on both ends, and measure between 23.6 inches and 59 inches long. The model number (RY-US-06 or RY_US-1.5) may be printed on your purchase order or receipt.
Where were these cords sold?
They were sold online at Walmart.com from April 2025 through November 2025.
