URGENT RECALL: Zen Magnetic Ball Sets

The Hazard

INGESTION

Daoen is recalling Zen-branded magnetic ball sets because they pose a serious ingestion hazard to children. If swallowed, these high-powered magnets can attract each other or other metal objects in the body, leading to severe internal injuries, blood poisoning, or even death. Stop using these toys immediately and keep them away from children.

About 1,000 units affected. No injuries have been reported.

Technical Breakdown

The magnetic balls are considered dangerous because they violate safety standards for toys. They are small, loose, and have strong magnetic force. If a child swallows more than one of these magnets, the magnets can attract each other inside the body. This attraction can cause the walls of the intestines to clamp together.

This clamping action can lead to blockages, perforations (holes), twisting of the intestines, and blood poisoning. These injuries require immediate medical attention and can be life-threatening. Because of these risks, it’s crucial to remove these magnetic ball sets from any environment where children are present.
