The Hazard
TIP-OVER
4our Kiddies is recalling their plastic tip restraint kits, also called furniture straps. These kits are designed to keep furniture from tipping over, but the plastic in the brackets and zip ties can break down over time. This means the furniture could tip over, posing a serious risk of injury or even death, especially to children and elderly people.
CPSC is aware of at least 150 incidents where the plastic tip restraint kits broke, including three reported tip-over incidents. About 253,500 units were sold.
Technical Breakdown
The plastic used in the brackets and zip ties of these tip restraint kits can become weak and brittle. Over time, this can cause the plastic to crack or break, even without any obvious warning signs. This defect makes the kits unable to properly secure furniture.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has tested these kits and found that they don’t meet industry safety standards for tip restraints. A failure can happen at any time without warning, making these kits unreliable and dangerous. It’s important to stop using these kits immediately and replace them with a safer alternative.
