DR Power Equipment is recalling leaf vacuums. The impeller fan inside the vacuum can break. Broken pieces can fly out of the machine. This poses a laceration hazard to users and bystanders.
About 60,250 (In addition, about 1,023 were sold in Canada) DR Power Equipment previously recalled 57,200 leaf blowers and vacuums in May 2024. New models of leaf vacuums have been added to this recall
Why This Happens: Technical Breakdown
The leaf vacuums are being recalled because the impeller fan, which is responsible for shredding and vacuuming leaves, can fail. This failure can occur due to the impeller being made of a material that is not strong enough to withstand the forces it experiences during normal operation. Over time, or even suddenly, the impeller can crack or shatter.
When the impeller breaks, pieces of it can be ejected from the leaf vacuum at high speed. These flying pieces pose a serious risk of laceration to anyone nearby, including the operator and bystanders. The force of the ejected debris can cause cuts, punctures, and other injuries.
