The Hazard

CLASS 1 WARNING: POISONING

Zan International Trading is recalling Lotus Joy Organic Sweet Birch Essential Oil. The packaging is not child-resistant. This poses a risk of poisoning, serious injury, or death to children if they ingest the oil.

About 470 units are affected. No injuries have been reported.

Why This Happens: Technical Breakdown

The essential oil bottles are being recalled because they do not meet the child-resistant packaging standards. This means that a child could easily open the bottle and ingest the oil. Sweet birch essential oil contains methyl salicylate, which is toxic. Even a small amount can be dangerous for children.
