The Hazard
POISONING
Bayer is recalling travel-size Afrin Original Nasal Spray because the packaging isn’t child-resistant. This means kids could accidentally open the bottle and swallow the medicine, which could lead to serious illness or injury due to poisoning. Keep this product away from children and follow the instructions below to get a refund.
About 786,100 units are affected. No injuries have been reported.
Technical Breakdown
The recall involves Travel Size Afrin Original Nasal Spray in 6 mL bottles. The problem is that the packaging doesn’t meet the safety standards to prevent children from opening it. The Poison Prevention Packaging Act requires that products like this have child-resistant packaging or special warning labels, and this product has neither.
If a child ingests the nasal spray, which contains an imidazoline, it could cause serious health problems. The lack of proper packaging creates a significant risk of accidental poisoning, making this a very serious recall.
