YITA is recalling dressers sold under the brand names Dextrus, ModFusion, Uforic, Yintatech, and Yitahome. These dressers are unstable. They can tip over if not anchored to the wall. This poses a serious risk of injury or death to children from tip-over and entrapment hazards.
About 6,800 units affected. No injuries reported.
Why This Happens: Technical Breakdown
These dressers do not meet the safety standards for clothing storage units. The design makes them prone to tipping, especially if drawers are opened or if a child climbs on them. Without being properly anchored to a wall, the dresser’s center of gravity shifts, making it easy to topple over. This can lead to the dresser falling on a child, causing serious injuries or even death.
The problem stems from the dresser’s construction and materials. The lightweight fabric drawers and metal frame may not provide enough stability. This lack of stability, combined with the height of the dresser, creates a dangerous tip-over hazard. The recall aims to remove these hazardous dressers from homes and prevent potential accidents.
