LACERATION AND PROJECTILE
The nvyue Magic Pocket Staffs are being recalled because they can suddenly and unexpectedly expand, even when the safety pin is supposedly engaged. This can happen with so much force and speed that it poses a serious risk of cuts (lacerations) and being hit by a flying object (projectile hazard). People, including children, have already been hurt by these.
CPSC has received 163 reports of injuries. Injuries include corneal lacerations, temporary vision loss and injuries requiring stitches. The recall affects about 25,000 units.
Technical Breakdown
The Magic Pocket Staffs are designed to spring open from a compressed cylinder. However, the safety pin meant to keep them closed can fail. This means the staff can shoot open without warning. Even if the pin seems to be working, the staff expands so quickly that there’s no time to react and protect yourself. This rapid expansion can cause serious injuries, especially to the eyes, face, and hands.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has received numerous reports of injuries, including cuts to the cornea (the clear front part of the eye), temporary vision loss, and injuries requiring stitches. These incidents highlight the significant danger this product poses, particularly to young children who may not understand the risks.
