URGENT RECALL: PandaEar Portable Hook-On Chairs

The Hazard

FALL HAZARD

PandaEar is recalling their portable hook-on chairs because they don’t meet safety standards. The straps that keep the baby from falling out can be removed too easily. This means a baby could slip through the opening and fall, which could lead to serious injury or even death. Stop using these chairs immediately to keep your child safe.

About 9,700 units are affected. No injuries have been reported.

Technical Breakdown

The recall involves two models of PandaEar portable hook-on chairs that attach to dining tables. These chairs are designed to suspend a child from the table while they eat. The problem is that the crotch restraint, which is supposed to prevent the child from sliding out, can be removed without using any tools. This violates federal safety standards for portable hook-on chairs.

Because the restraint can be easily removed, there’s a significant risk that a baby could fall through the opening in the seat. This fall could result in serious injuries, such as broken bones or head trauma, or tragically, even death. PandaEar is asking consumers to stop using the chairs immediately and to destroy them to prevent further accidents.
