The Hazard
CHOKING/INGESTION
Qumeney Bicycle Light Sets are being recalled because the button batteries inside can be easily accessed by children. If a child swallows a button battery, it can cause serious injuries or even death. The product also lacks required safety warnings. Stop using these lights immediately to protect children.
About 2,800 units are affected. No injuries have been reported.
Technical Breakdown
The Qumeney Bicycle Light Sets have a design flaw that makes it easy for kids to get to the button batteries inside. These batteries are small and shiny, which can make them attractive to young children who might put them in their mouths. If swallowed, these batteries can cause severe burns in the esophagus and other internal injuries.
Federal safety standards require that products with button batteries have secure compartments and warning labels to prevent children from accessing the batteries. These bicycle lights do not meet these safety standards, increasing the risk of battery ingestion and serious harm. Because of the high danger they pose, it’s important to stop using these lights immediately.
