The Hazard
CLASS 1 WARNING: BURN HAZARD
Sanven Technology is recalling VEVOR Garment Steamers. The steamers can spit hot water or leak. The water tank cap may detach or leak, causing burns.
The firm has received six reports of hot water spitting, pouring out, leaking or dripping from the steamers, and 12 reports of issues with the water tank cap detaching, leaking, not staying closed, fitting loosely, or melting. The reported cap issues resulted in two burn injuries, including one consumer who received a permanent scar and a second-degree burn from the hot water, after the steamer’s cap suddenly detached and one consumer who received a minor burn on their hand and fingers from leaked water. Additionally, there is one report of a minor steam burn through the provided glove.
Why This Happens: Technical Breakdown
The VEVOR garment steamers have a faulty design that can cause hot water to spray or leak out during use. The water tank cap may not be secure, leading to detachment and leakage of hot water. This can happen suddenly, posing a burn risk to the user. The included glove may not provide adequate protection against steam burns.
The problem stems from issues with the water tank cap and the steamer’s internal pressure regulation. The cap may not be able to withstand the pressure, causing it to detach or leak. The steamer itself may not properly control the steam and water flow, leading to spitting and spraying. These issues create a dangerous situation for consumers using the product.
