The Hazard
CLASS 1 WARNING: POISONING
Bazic Products is recalling Bazic Silicone Glue. The glue contains methanol, which can be poisonous if swallowed. The glue’s packaging is not child-resistant, and it’s incorrectly labeled. This poses a serious risk of injury or death to children.
About 21,170 units are affected. No injuries have been reported.
Why This Happens: Technical Breakdown
The Bazic Silicone Glue is being recalled because it contains methanol. Methanol is a dangerous substance that can cause serious health problems, especially in children. Federal law requires products containing methanol to have child-resistant packaging to prevent accidental poisoning. This glue’s packaging does not meet those standards.
Additionally, the glue is mislabeled. It incorrectly states that it is “Non-Toxic”. It also fails to warn users that it is “highly flammable”. These labeling errors violate the Federal Hazardous Substances Act and further increase the risk of harm to consumers, especially children who might not understand the dangers of the product.
