CLASS 1 WARNING: FIRE — DISHWASHER OVERHEATING

Why This Happens: Technical Breakdown
The heating element at the bottom of the dishwasher is supposed to reach about 170°F during the heated dry cycle. A faulty temperature sensor in the control board fails to cut power when the element reaches the target temperature. Without this safety cutoff, the element continues heating past 400°F.
At that temperature, the plastic interior tub begins to soften and eventually catches fire. The fire starts at the bottom of the dishwasher and quickly moves upward through the door seal. Most kitchen fires from this defect happen when the dishwasher is running overnight or when the homeowner is away — making them especially dangerous because there is no one to catch it early.

Frequently Asked Questions
Where do I find the model number?
Open the dishwasher door. Look at the left inside edge — there is a silver sticker with the model number (starts with CC-) and serial number (starts with WX).
Do I need a receipt for the refund?
No. CrystalClean is offering full refunds or free repairs based on the serial number alone. No receipt required.
Can I use the dishwasher if I skip the heated dry?
The CPSC recommends stopping all use until the repair is complete. Even non-heated cycles use the element briefly and the sensor defect could still trigger overheating.
Can I get compensation for fire damage?
If your dishwasher caused a fire, property damage, or injuries, you may be entitled to significant compensation beyond the refund. Use our free Legal Rights Assessment above.
