The Hazard
ENTRAPMENT AND ASPHYXIATION
Easymake adult portable bed rails are being recalled because they don’t meet safety standards and can trap people, leading to serious injury or even death by suffocation. The bed rails create a space where a person can get stuck between the rail and the mattress. This recall affects about 19,000 units. Stop using these bed rails immediately!
About 19,000 units affected; No injuries reported.
Technical Breakdown
These bed rails fail to meet the mandatory safety standard for adult portable bed rails. This means they haven’t been properly tested to ensure they prevent entrapment. The design of the bed rail allows a gap to form, creating a dangerous space where a person, especially someone elderly or with mobility issues, could become trapped. Once trapped, the person may be unable to free themselves, leading to asphyxiation due to the obstruction of their breathing.
