The Hazard
CLASS 1 WARNING: INGESTION
Great Lakes Wholesale International is recalling certain Great Lakes Select battery packs. The packaging is not child-resistant. This violates federal safety rules. If a child swallows a battery, it can cause serious injuries or death.
None reported
Why This Happens: Technical Breakdown
The recalled battery packs do not have child-resistant packaging. This means a child could easily open the package and get to the batteries. Button cell batteries are small and shiny, making them attractive to young children. If a child swallows a button cell battery, it can get stuck in their throat or digestive system. The battery can then cause chemical burns and tissue damage. This can lead to serious health problems, or even death.
