The Hazard
CLASS 1 WARNING: STRANGULATION — WINDOW BLIND CORDS
The pull cords on these window blinds form loops that can wrap around a child’s neck. Children playing near windows or in cribs placed near windows have become entangled. There have been 3 child deaths and 11 near-strangulation incidents since 2022. The cords do not have the required safety breakaway feature.
3 deaths, 11 near-strangulation incidents. 2.1 million blinds sold at major retailers.
Why This Happens: Technical Breakdown
Window blinds use pull cords to raise and lower the slats. On properly designed blinds, these cords have a breakaway connector that splits apart under a child’s weight, preventing strangulation. The recalled blinds were manufactured without this safety feature.
The cords form a continuous loop from the headrail to the bottom of the blind. A child can put their head through this loop while playing, or the cord can wrap around the neck of a sleeping child whose crib is near the window. Even small amounts of pressure are enough to cut off airflow in a young child. Strangulation can happen silently in under 3 minutes.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I just tie up the cords?
Tying cords is NOT a safe solution. Tied cords can come loose. The only safe options are: cut the loop to eliminate it, install the free retrofit kit, or replace with cordless blinds.
What ages are most at risk?
Children under 5 are at highest risk, but strangulation has occurred in children up to age 8. All homes with children should address this immediately.
Are my blinds affected if I don’t see the EasyView brand?
This recall is for EasyView brand. However, the CPSC warns that ALL corded window coverings pose a strangulation risk to children. Consider replacing all corded blinds with cordless versions.
