The Hazard
CHOKING/INGESTION
MalkerDirect is recalling their Bicycle Light Sets because they have small button batteries inside that kids can easily get to and swallow. Button batteries can cause serious injuries or even death if swallowed. The lights also don’t have proper warning labels about the dangers of button batteries.
About 7,000 units were sold. No injuries have been reported yet.
Technical Breakdown
The Malker Bicycle Light Sets are being recalled because they don’t meet the safety rules for products with button batteries. These rules are in place to prevent kids from swallowing the batteries. The lights were sold as 4-packs or 8-packs and have different colored silicone (red, black, or white). Each light has two CR2032 button cell batteries inside.
If a child swallows a button battery, it can cause serious burns in their throat or stomach. This can lead to long-term health problems or even death. Because these lights don’t have a secure battery compartment and lack the required warning labels, they pose a significant risk to children.
