The Hazard
CLASS 1 WARNING: CHOKING HAZARD
HydroJug is recalling 14-ounce children’s sport tumblers. The handle can break off. Small parts can become a choking hazard for children. Stop using the tumblers immediately.
The firm has received 656 reports of the rivets on the handle coming loose. No injuries have been reported.
Why This Happens: Technical Breakdown
The HydroJug tumblers have a handle attached to the lid with rivets. These rivets can come loose over time or with use. If the rivets fail, the handle can detach from the lid. This creates small parts, specifically the rivets themselves, that young children could put in their mouths.
Because young children are prone to putting things in their mouths, detached rivets pose a choking hazard. If a child swallows a rivet, it could block their airway. This can lead to serious injury or even death. The recall is meant to prevent these potential incidents by removing the tumblers from use.
