URGENT RECALL: INIU Power Banks

The Hazard

CLASS 1 WARNING: FIRE AND BURN

INIU is recalling certain power banks. The lithium-ion battery inside can overheat. This can cause the power bank to catch fire or burn someone. Stop using the power bank immediately.

INIU has received 15 reports of power banks overheating, including 11 reports of fires that resulted in three minor burn injuries and property damage totaling over $380,000.

Why This Happens: Technical Breakdown

The recalled INIU power banks have a problem with their lithium-ion batteries. These batteries can sometimes get too hot. When a lithium-ion battery overheats, it can swell up, smoke, or even catch fire. This is because of a chemical reaction inside the battery that gets out of control.

The overheating can happen for several reasons. It could be a problem with how the battery was made, or how the power bank controls the charging process. If the power bank is damaged or used in a way it wasn’t designed for, that can also cause the battery to overheat. Because of this risk, INIU is recalling these power banks to prevent injuries and property damage.
