The Hazard
CLASS 1 WARNING: FIRE HAZARD
Johnson Health Tech is recalling Matrix Retail and Vision treadmills due to a fire hazard. The power cord can become loose from the treadmill’s power socket. This can cause overheating and potentially lead to a fire. Stop using the recalled treadmills immediately.
This recall is an expansion of a prior recall.
Why This Happens: Technical Breakdown
The treadmills have a design flaw where the power cord can detach from the power socket. Over time, the connection can loosen due to normal use and vibration. This loose connection creates resistance, which generates heat. If enough heat builds up, it can ignite nearby materials, posing a fire risk.
The recalled treadmills were sold without a power cord bracket, which would normally secure the cord and prevent it from becoming loose. The lack of this bracket, combined with the potential for a loose connection, significantly increases the risk of a fire. The company is now providing a replacement power cord with a locking-style plug to address this issue.
