URGENT RECALL: Superbobi Pool Drain Covers

The Hazard

DROWNING/ENTRAPMENT

Superbobi pool drain covers are being recalled because they don’t meet safety standards. This means swimmers can get trapped by the drain and drown. Stop using pools with these drain covers immediately to prevent serious injury or death.

About 200 units affected. No injuries have been reported.

Technical Breakdown

The Superbobi pool drain covers do not meet the Virginia Graeme Baker Pool and Spa Safety Act (VGBA) standards. These standards are in place to prevent swimmers from getting trapped by the powerful suction of pool drains. When a drain cover doesn’t meet these standards, a swimmer’s body or clothing can become stuck to the drain, making it impossible for them to surface. This is called entrapment.

Without a properly functioning drain cover, the suction force can be too strong, creating a dangerous situation. Children are especially vulnerable because they may not have the strength to free themselves. This recall aims to remove these dangerous drain covers from pools to avoid potential drownings and injuries.
