URGENT RECALL: VoltMax Portable Chargers — Overheating Fire Risk While Charging (1.8 Million Units)

The Hazard

CLASS 1 WARNING: FIRE AND BURN — PORTABLE PHONE CHARGER

These portable chargers (power banks) can overheat, swell, and catch fire during charging. The lithium cells lack proper overcharge protection. There have been 89 fire reports including 12 burn injuries. Multiple fires occurred on nightstands while owners were sleeping.

89 fires, 12 burn injuries, 3 house fires. 1.8 million power banks sold on Amazon and Walmart.com.

Why This Happens: Technical Breakdown

A proper power bank has a protection circuit that cuts off charging when the battery is full. The recalled units use a cheap circuit board that sometimes fails to detect a full charge. The battery keeps absorbing energy, building up heat and pressure inside the sealed metal case.

Eventually the lithium cells vent hot gas, and if the vent fails, the entire unit can catch fire or explode. This is especially dangerous at night — many people charge their power banks on a nightstand next to their bed while sleeping. A fire on a nightstand next to bedsheets can spread throughout a bedroom in under 2 minutes.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I throw it in the trash?

NO. Lithium batteries in the garbage can cause fires in garbage trucks and landfills. Take it to a battery recycling drop-off at Best Buy, Home Depot, or your local waste facility.

Mine hasn’t caught fire — is it safe?

No. The defect is in every unit. It may not have failed yet, but every charge cycle increases the risk. Stop using it now.

I lost my receipt — can I still get a refund?

Amazon and Walmart can look up purchases by your account email. Contact customer service with the product model number.
