The Hazard

CLASS 1 WARNING: CARBON MONOXIDE POISONING

VESTA.DS is recalling VST brand tankless water heaters. The water heaters can leak carbon monoxide. Carbon monoxide is a dangerous gas that can cause serious injury or death. Stop using the water heaters immediately.

The company has received 33 reports of cracked exhaust ducts.

Why This Happens: Technical Breakdown

The recalled water heaters have a problem with their exhaust system. Specifically, the exhaust ducts can crack. When these ducts crack, dangerous exhaust fumes can leak out of the unit. These fumes contain carbon monoxide (CO), a colorless and odorless gas.

Carbon monoxide is extremely dangerous because it prevents your blood from carrying oxygen. Exposure to CO can cause headaches, dizziness, weakness, vomiting, chest pain, and confusion. High levels of CO can lead to loss of consciousness and death. Because of the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning, it is important to address this recall immediately.
