The Hazard
ELECTROCUTION
Le Hao Tool is recalling its electric pressure washers because they are missing a safety feature called a ground-fault circuit interrupter (GFCI). Without this, there’s a serious risk of electric shock or even death if the pressure washer malfunctions or gets wet. This is a very dangerous situation, so it’s important to take action immediately.
3100 units affected. No injuries reported.
Technical Breakdown
Electric pressure washers use water and electricity together, which can be risky. A GFCI is designed to quickly cut off the power if it detects a leak of electricity to ground. This prevents someone using the pressure washer from getting shocked if there’s a problem with the wiring or if water gets where it shouldn’t. These recalled pressure washers don’t have this important safety feature, making them extremely dangerous to use.
The lack of a GFCI means that if there’s an electrical fault, the user could become part of the electrical circuit. This could cause a painful shock, muscle spasms, burns, or even cardiac arrest. Because water conducts electricity, the risk is especially high when using a pressure washer, increasing the chance of a severe or fatal injury.
