Watkins Manufacturing is recalling Hydromassage rotary jets found in Highlife Collection spas. The jets can create a strong suction. This suction can trap a person’s hair, posing an entanglement and drowning hazard.
The firm has received one report of a consumer whose hair was entangled in the jets. No injuries have been reported. About 32,900 units were sold in the United States and about 853 were sold in Canada.
Why This Happens: Technical Breakdown
The recalled hydromassage rotary jets have six fins. These jets are designed to rotate and create a swirling water massage effect. However, the design can create a strong suction force under certain conditions. This suction can pull hair into the jet.
If a person’s hair gets caught in the jet, they may become trapped underwater. This is especially dangerous for children or anyone with long hair. The suction can prevent them from surfacing, leading to a risk of drowning.
