The Hazard
STRANGULATION
Allura Imports is recalling youth sweatshirts with drawstrings because they pose a strangulation hazard to children. The drawstrings can get caught on objects, leading to serious injury or even death. These sweatshirts violate federal safety regulations for children’s outerwear and must be taken out of use immediately.
About 120 sweatshirts are affected. No injuries have been reported.
Technical Breakdown
The recalled sweatshirts have drawstrings, which are a known safety risk for children’s clothing. The drawstrings can become entangled in playground equipment, fences, or other objects, leading to accidental strangulation. Federal regulations prohibit drawstrings in children’s outerwear to prevent these types of accidents.
Allura Imports is urging consumers to immediately remove the drawstrings from the sweatshirts to eliminate the hazard. Consumers should then contact Allura Imports to arrange for a free return of the garment and receive a full refund. The company is providing prepaid shipping labels to make the return process as easy as possible.
