The Hazard

CLASS 1 WARNING: BURN HAZARD

The Bio Ionic One-Inch-Long Barrel Curling Iron is being recalled. The barrel of the curling iron can break and come off. This can cause burns to the user. Stop using the curling iron immediately.

The firm has received 258 reports of the curling iron barrel detaching, including six minor burn injuries.

Why This Happens: Technical Breakdown

The curling iron’s barrel can detach from the handle during use. This is due to a manufacturing defect that weakens the connection between the barrel and the handle. The high heat of the barrel, combined with the stress of use, can cause the connection to fail. When the barrel detaches, it can unexpectedly fall and cause burns.

The problem is made worse by the fact that the barrel heats up to a high temperature very quickly. If the barrel detaches while it’s hot, it poses an immediate burn risk. The company has received reports of minor burn injuries. This shows the potential danger of this defect.
