The Hazard
CLASS 1 WARNING: FIRE AND BURN HAZARD
Curtis International is recalling Frigidaire-brand minifridges. The minifridges can have electrical problems. This can cause the minifridge to catch fire. This poses a fire and burn risk to consumers.
Curtis International has received at least six reports of the model EFMIS121 minifridges catching fire, with property damages.
Why This Happens: Technical Breakdown
The recalled minifridges have a problem with their internal electrical parts. These parts can short circuit. When this happens, it can cause the plastic around the parts to catch fire. This is because the short circuit creates heat. The heat can ignite the plastic, leading to a fire.
This problem can happen even when the minifridge is turned off. If the electrical components are faulty, they can still short circuit and cause a fire. This is why it is important to unplug the minifridge immediately if it is part of the recall.
