The Hazard
CLASS 1 WARNING: FIRE HAZARD
The HTRC and Haisito T400 battery chargers can catch fire. They can also cause the battery connected to them to catch fire. This poses a serious risk of injury and even death. Stop using these chargers immediately.
33 reports of fires and explosions, including three reports of burn and smoke inhalation injuries and 12 reports of property damage totaling $224,000.
Why This Happens: Technical Breakdown
The recalled battery chargers have a problem that can cause them to overheat. This overheating can lead to a fire or explosion. The issue may be due to faulty components or a design flaw that doesn’t properly regulate the charging process. This can cause the charger, or the battery being charged, to become dangerously hot.
When a battery charger overheats, it creates a significant fire risk. The plastic casing of the charger can melt, and flammable materials nearby can ignite. In some cases, the battery being charged can also explode, sending shrapnel and hot chemicals into the surrounding area. This poses a serious threat to anyone nearby and can cause significant property damage.
