The Hazard

CLASS 1 WARNING: INGESTION HAZARD

LuxJet Submersible LED Lights are being recalled. The lights have small batteries that kids can easily get to. If swallowed, these batteries can cause serious injuries, chemical burns, and even death. The lights also don’t have the right warnings on them.

About 9,150 units are affected.

Why This Happens: Technical Breakdown

The LuxJet LED lights have a dangerous design flaw. The small, button-sized batteries inside the lights are too easy for children to access. Kids can pry open the lights and swallow the batteries. These batteries can get stuck in a child’s throat or stomach. Once lodged, the battery can cause severe chemical burns to the surrounding tissue in as little as two hours. This can lead to serious injury or even death.

Also, the lights don’t have the right warning labels. Reese’s Law requires products with small batteries to have clear warnings about the dangers of battery ingestion. Because these lights don’t have these warnings, parents and caregivers may not be aware of the risk. This makes it even more likely that a child will swallow a battery.
