URGENT RECALL: Residential Elevators StrikeLock Hoistway Door Locking Device

The Hazard

FALL AND INJURY HAZARDS

Residential Elevators is recalling their StrikeLock hoistway door locking devices. These devices, used on residential elevators, can fail and allow the elevator car to move even when the landing door is open. This creates a serious risk of falls, injuries, and even death. Stop using your elevator immediately if it has a StrikeLock device.

About 450 units affected. No injuries reported.

Technical Breakdown

The StrikeLock hoistway door locking device is designed to prevent the elevator from moving if the landing door is not properly closed and locked. However, the recalled StrikeLock devices can malfunction. If the device fails, the elevator cab can move even when the hoistway door is open. This creates a dangerous situation because someone could fall into the elevator shaft or be struck by the moving elevator.

This recall affects approximately 450 units sold between April 2024 and March 2026. Residential Elevators is offering a free repair to correct the problem.
