URGENT RECALL: AquaWash Front-Load Washers — Electrocution Risk From Loose Ground Wire

Official Source: View Official Recall Notice | Published: April 7, 2026

The Hazard

CLASS 1 WARNING: ELECTROCUTION — WASHING MACHINE

A wiring defect inside the control panel can cause the metal exterior of the washing machine to become electrically charged. Touching the machine while standing on a wet laundry room floor creates a path for electrical shock. There have been 34 shock reports, including 8 requiring emergency medical treatment.

34 electric shock reports, 8 emergency room visits. 520,000 washers sold.

Why This Happens: Technical Breakdown

Inside the top control panel, a ground wire is supposed to connect the metal chassis to the grounding prong of the power cord. In the affected units, this wire was crimped too loosely at the factory. Over time, vibration from the spin cycle works the crimp loose until the ground connection is lost.

Without the ground connection, if any internal wire touches the metal frame — which happens naturally as wires shift during vibration — the entire metal exterior becomes “hot” with 120 volts. You would not know this until you touch the machine. If your feet are on a wet floor, the electricity passes through your body to the ground, causing severe shock.
