URGENT RECALL: Rublev Colours Gum Turpentine and Mineral Spirits

The Hazard

POISONING

Natural Pigments is recalling Rublev Colours Gum Turpentine and Mineral Spirits because the bottles aren’t child-resistant. This means if a child gets ahold of these products and swallows them, they could get seriously sick or even die from poisoning. It’s super important to keep these products away from kids!

About 860 bottles are affected. No injuries have been reported.

Technical Breakdown

The problem is that the bottles don’t have special caps that are hard for kids to open. Federal law requires products like these, which contain dangerous chemicals (turpentine and low-viscosity hydrocarbons), to have child-resistant packaging. Because these bottles don’t meet that standard, there’s a real risk of kids accidentally swallowing the contents. These chemicals can cause serious health problems if ingested, making it crucial to prevent children from accessing them.

The bottles themselves are made of amber glass and have a beige, orange, and white label with “Rublev Colours” printed on them. The labels also say either “Gum Turpentine”, “Distilled Spirits of Gum Turpentine” or “Mineral Spirits”, “Stoddard Solvent”. The bottles also have warnings and instructions, but that doesn’t make them safe for kids if they can open them easily.
