URGENT RECALL: Fisher & Paykel Gas Ranges

The Hazard

BURN

Fisher & Paykel is recalling certain gas ranges because they can pose a burn hazard. The igniter can stay on for too long after the burner is lit. This can cause the surrounding metal to overheat, creating a burn risk if touched. Immediately stop using the recalled ranges and follow the steps below to get a free inspection and repair.

Fisher & Paykel is aware of burn incidents related to this defect. About 433 units were sold in the US and 70 in Canada.

Technical Breakdown

The problem lies with the igniter system in these gas ranges. The igniter is supposed to shut off once the burner is lit. However, in the affected models, the igniter can sometimes continue to spark even after the flame is established. This prolonged sparking causes excessive heat to build up around the burner.

The excessive heat can make the metal surfaces near the burners extremely hot. If someone accidentally touches these hot surfaces, they could suffer burns. Fisher & Paykel has received reports of burn injuries related to this issue, prompting the recall to prevent further incidents and ensure consumer safety. The company is working to provide free inspections and repairs to address this safety hazard.
